Our Journey So Far…
Kweeza was born in 2020 after an evening conversation in which Reagan Nu’Agaba, told his co-founder Ronnie Twine about constant inquiries about sofa cleaning at his furniture shop in Kyaliwajjala, Kampala.
“When we sell upholstery to clients, they often return after a few months asking whether we can clean them,” Reagan casually told his co-founder.
They both agreed that there was need to start a cleaning business. Ronnie undertook training to learn the ins and outs of operating a cleaning business, and when he was finished, Kweeza came about.
You will ask, what does Kweeza mean?
The word Kweeza was derived from the rutoro/ runyoro vocabulary. Literally, it means ‘the process of making something clean’
Yet the motivation of starting Kweeza was to offer a solution to the customers who came asking about sofa cleaning at Reagan’s furniture shop, the first client to ring was not in need of sofa cleaning.
It was a friend of Twine. He called saying, “We have this glued down carpet in our office. It needs cleaning. I know you have just started, you might not have much experience, but I am trusting you to do a great job, you think you can?”
At the time of that call, the company was not well equipped to take on the task.
“We only had a vacuum cleaner. To clean a wall to wall office carpet that is glued down, you need an electric scrubber. We didn’t have it, but this I didn’t tell the client. We accepted to do the work. And purchased a scrubber immediately,” says Twine
Kweeza performed her first cleaning task on August 15th, 2020. Few days after, another client called seeking a sofa cleaning service.
“Although I felt that we had performed well with our first two tasks, I was afraid to ask the clients for feedback. I feared they would say something that would break my heart, and the delicate heart of the business, but that isn’t the case now, we now confidently ask the customers to review us. We use those reviews as fuel to grow,” says Twine
Two years have passed since the first task on August 15. The experience of the team has grown and so have the different units that make the company. More equipment and knowledge has been acquired, thanks to the support of the very first customer who called and many more who have come after.
On the 7th day of June 2021, the company earned its certificate of incorporation and has gone on to earn several other licenses.
The company has grown from offering upholstery cleaning services to over 20 other cleaning services, including; pest control, post construction cleaning, house cleaning, roof tile cleaning, detailed car cleaning and more.
